I'm really really sad and I hope you can excuse me to speak about something happening right here, in 2022.
Brazil is an indigenous territory. Since always, hundreds of cultures live and build their ways of life here.
For convenience we use a common language. Till 1808 the common tongue was called ñengatuu, in that year the Portuguese crown crossed the ocean running away from french army, and start living in Rio de Janeiro - and that year this city became the capital of the reign of Portugal. Since 1808, portuguese is the official language - but still we speak hundreds of different tongues here.
The colonization process demands that all that differences are erased. Basically I'm saying that "they" - whoever they are - don't want you to know that there are hundreds of cultures living in Brazil.
Since always there are people exploiting the land, looking for metal or growing commodities. There is this activity called "garimpo", it's made by men, and it's very dangerous for the environment, since they dot manage properly the resources, contamination of water and soil is a very common result of the "garimpo".
I'm the northern state of Roraima, "garimpeiros" - people who works on garimpo - have violated a yanomami - an indigenous ethnicity from the north - girl at the age of 12. That happened about ten days ago.
The day after, a three (3) years old yanomami was found without life in the river.
Just about 3 days ago, the whole yanomami community was found down to ashes, and there is no trail of the people. They just vanished.
Collective suicide is very common in this territory since the arrival of the first European invaders, so I truly believe in this possibility.
Anyway, we pay taxes here. We demand answers. And no one is talking about this. Our government remains silent. Our congressmen remains silent.
We have elections this year, and it seems nobody wants to compromise.
