Finally continuing the next segment of this series, we have The Mid Paleozoic Reefs! From the start of the Ordovician (485 Ma) until the end of the Devonian (359 Ma), Stromatoporoid sponges, rugose corals, and tabulate corals slowly rose to not only prominence, but dominance, being the most successful reef builders in Earth history, occupying nearly 1.9 million square miles of seafloor. I've wanted to talk about these guys for awhile and as you can see, there was a lot for me to go through, hope you all enjoy!
